comment Which free OLAP systems are available?
Then do it. This is hardly rocket science and an approach that any decent SQL databases supports, too.

That will not help if you have a lot of data. THen you also need hardware. Most likely hardware already is your problem - I have no probvlemsdoing analysis over our 3000gb database... because it is VERY fast with half a dzen SSD delivering more than 1gb of data per second. I would bet your problem is a lot more "too cheap hardware" than MySQL. Too large today means you arleady have a minimum of around 128gb memory in your server... and that is low end for any server doing analysis work.

comment How to send “ATA Secure Erase” command to SSD?
It should be noted that there are drives encrypting the content - and they also forget the key, so the data is not only "random" (missing the metadata to reconstruct it), but also encrypted with an unrecoverable key... that allows the SAFE deletion of SSD and hard discs in pretty much milliseconds. Hardware storage encryption is a standard feature today on most enterprise hardware.

1.8 million crownss for 2 servers? Joke? Hire an admin.

What you care about free? Seriously - a large data olap system will cost MONEY anyway. Like large money. Last time I played on a data warehouse, the hardware cost hundreds of thousands.

comment Can't use login.live.com or Visual Studio Online on Windows Server 2012 R2
Yes, it would - remote debugging is meant exactly for not installing visual studio on a server. It is like real debugging.... remote. And, nicely speaking - this smells like a resource leak that are quite easy to find.... with a profiler. Did you install desktop experience?

Have you considered using remote debugging instead of loading up the server with all that stuff? DId you install desktop experience on the server?

Yeah. "It did not work so well" means what? Hyper-V level restore works like a charm here.... that said, I use DPM for backing up the complete infrastructure.

An admin? We do not deal with end users here - as per site FAQ. If you do not know how to administrate your server, your admin should be here asking the question.

That depends whether IO Will be your problem. The IO side will be a lot faster - but whether the machine will be depends on the measurements you should have been taking before posting here.

comment How to virtualize a dedicated server
We do not do product recommendations here as per site FAQ. Maybe spend an hour doing basic research yourself? That server is, btw., quite unsuitable for virtualization with that ridiculously low performance storage system. I would suggest starting 64mb ram either with only ssd or with something like 8 velcicpators in a Rad 10 for the virtual machines - and even then it will be slow during heavy operations.

comment What is the definition of High Availability?
wrong. 99% HA requires no investment. Heck, a computer shop around the corner can replace whatever fails in a day and things do not fail that often. It is past 99.9% things get complicated. But 99% is "know how to order a replacement computer on any retail outlet".

I would argue that availability class 2 is normal today - that is what you can get with a normal computer. 1% downtime is more than 3 days per year.

What bout "if your hardware fails - which it will - you will be in the dumps and can not rely on drivers being available for new hardware".

Yeah. That is normally totally fixed by properly installing the drivers for your visualization technology. Simple like that.

Given the extremely low level you basically ask for documentation. Learning Material requests are not on topic here.

comment Windows Server 2012 R2, having unexpectedly low disk performance or fault
SD are exactly aspirins for IO. Not super cheap unsuitable for the job, but basically, having around 100x or more IO budget than a disc - yes, they help. I replaced a 8 disc Raid 10 Velociraptor array with a 6 disc raid 50 SSD and we went from (fully random) patially down to 30mb/second to a nice 1 gigabyte per second.

I think we woulds prefer to have images that are clearly readable. I just had to copy/ paste them into Paint.NET to be able to zoom in and I can only decipher the text vaguely.
