comment High server load - [jbd2/md1-8] using 99.99% IO
Never forget hat this is not really any even mid perforamnce setup from the discs - "slow as a workstation" does more describe it.

comment How to set up an authentication system to authenticate users against an existing SQL Server database
Common protocol for this type of work today is OAuth... not ldap.

comment Can I use different backup tape brands for tape library?
Is that still an issue with current generation tapes? LTO4 is quite ancient.

comment Placement of OS and SQL files
I would argue for tempdb on raid 0 if you can handle the downtime. I do that - Raid 0 on SSD - because I ften need it (gigabytes of use at times in complex aggregation and analysis statements).

comment Why is it so important to backup your transaction log?
this here is the general forum. Databases are SUCH a hugh area they got their own sub-place outside of the still more generic serverfault.

comment Why is it so important to backup your transaction log?
Yes. And now start realizing that the DBAs normally make backup strategies for databases. So a question specific to database administration - like backup strategies - belongs to that area.

Off topic here - there is a site for that: dba.stackexchange.com

comment SQL Server Transaction Log maximum file size
@MichaelGreen I really hate to kill your delusions but SQL Server may take a LOT longer to rollback a transaction. Been in that case where a a 4 hour load resulted in a 16 hour rollback upon failure.

comment Recommend local server for 50 user
It is not fine. In my company we allocate a server and 64gb memory for every employee doing development work, on top of the servers used for email etc. Hm, I see you never tell us what you actually do. Your fault - hire an admin please qualified to ask a question. And qualified to read the FAQ here about unwanted questions.

comment NTP offset between PDCe and DC (Both Hyper-V)
2012 r2 added a great deal of new features to allow domain controllers to just work. Including ability to use snapshots with automatic updating of the dc etc. time service blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/11/19/… is quite clear to never disable time service ;)

comment NTP offset between PDCe and DC (Both Hyper-V)
Wrong on 3 - on 2012 R2 at least.... 2012 yes, 2012 r2 leave it running. It is smart enough to integrate well and it is needed for boot scenarios.

@mjb As per site rules: if you do not know what you talk about, do not ask here. superuser.com deals with users that try to deal with computers.

comment Can Windows Storage Spaces Mirror use 5 HDD in JBOD?
As per site rules we assume you did read the documentation (part of the "professional system administration only" and "professional is a mindset". All the questions here are way more than clear in the documentation.

comment Linux desktop as a MySQL server?
Please define "too much". A mid range database server has 64gb memroy in this millenium - even half a gig and some CPU will not make any realistic difference. Only when you talk "low end server, better to run as a VM".

Yeah, mixed up gb and kb. But with that size I Would likely hit 64kb as stripe.

comment RAID0 : best chunk size for fileserver with average 650KB files
Want statistics? Average means nothing without a standard deviation. 650gb average can be tons of 1kb files and some BIIIIG ones OR can be a spread between 600 and 700.

comment How do I persuade IIS to deliver content from within a Zip file?
Why ISAPI? We did the same with ASP.NET nearly 15 years ago and it worked fine ;) No need to go native.
