comment How can I estimate binlog size and whether binlogs should be on a separate disk?
Is there a way to check without enabling binlogging? Essentially, I'm thinking of looking at counters for data transferred of queries or similar.

comment Haproxy balancing - retry with another server if first timed out
AFAIK, you are asking to retry a different server when a request has been sent, but upstream takes too long to reply with a response. This a bad idea. Imagine you make a request that is really heavy (>5 seconds) to process for a server. If your haproxy then starts to send the same request to all other your upstream servers you 1) have no use of a haproxy loadbalancer 2) risk, in your case, increasing the load of all your upstream servers by 6. This is why haproxy doesn't have an basic option for it. I think you should consider optimizing your response times instead.

comment Haproxy balancing - retry with another server if first timed out
If I understand the question correctly, the user j99 want to retry after a request has been sent to a server when a response takes took long. AFAIK, redispatch will only redispatch if the server can't be connected to on TCP level (or possibly if a full request can't be sent - unclear).

comment SSH: Switch from public key authentication to password
One general problem with a private key is that you have no idea how it is being handled by clients. They could be carrying the private key around unencrypted on a USB memory for all I know. Passwords are good because they can be forced to adhere to a policy on a creation time.

I'm being picky here, but I'm not 100% sure random.choice is using a cryptographically secure random number generator, is it?

comment UFW blocking port 80 when it should not
I am too experiencing this. tcp_syncookies are enabled and in general the server is not that occupied.
