FYI -- the right way to answer your own question is by adding the answer as an answer (so other people can upvote it, and so the question shows as answered), rather than editing the question to include its own answer.

comment Can RHEL6 servers be “copied”?
...an issue which can be avoided with systems using LVM by using LVM snapshots to take a consistent image of the underlying block device and duplicating that, rather than running copy operations at the filesystem level.

comment Passing free-form commands to Ansible using complex-args form
Fair 'nuff. This is, in my mind, a significant design misfeature... but, well, is what it is.

Is there a data structure I can pass to any compliant YAML generator to make it emit - shell: ...? If this structure is something that can only be reliably generated by hand, that somewhat defeats the point of the question.

comment “/usr/bin/env: bash: No such file or directory” during puppet exec command
FYI, type bash is better practice than which bash (which launches an external command, not guaranteed to behave identically to the shell's own lookup behavior).

comment Understanding ulimit -u
@Mlfe For POSIX threads on modern Linux, yes. Hmm; I suppose not many systems/runtimes use green threads these days.

@triplee It's not only the processes in the subshell counted against the limit.

comment Can I use Apache 2.0 ErrorDocument and Mod Alias to store error pages outside the DocumentRoot?
Works. Notably, the docs specify that ErrorDocuments are handled "relative to the DocumentRoot".

Tom, virtualization technologies tend to provide their own "guest tools" / paravirtual drivers, frequently emulate different hardware, etc. If "good enough" means supporting a superset of the hardware emulated by all your competitors, then maybe that's true, but I'm not so sure that's a reasonable definition.

comment Hardware vs Software load balancers: Just a cost issue?
SSL offload hardware is also available directly for webservers, and supported by the ubiquitous OpenSSL library on Linux; this advantage isn't by any means unique to hardware load balancers.

Is the IE trusted site list used for Windows File Sharing, as opposed to web browsing?

comment kill -9 doesn't work
It would be helpful if you describe the operating system the NFS client is running; this is actually more relevant than knowing that the server is a NetApp appliance.

comment What is chroot in proftpd
@Saif - correct, it is normal and expected for any security-conscious FTP daemon to be using chroot. I can only speculate on why you wouldn't have seen this in the past -- security update impacting the logging code? log settings change? etc.

comment Defining a persistent static route on Mac OS X
jpb, RouteSplit sets up a launchd job, which does run at boot. Second, it's not the use of launchd itself that's hackish, but rather the lack of integration with the rest of the system -- for instance, the fact that the job doesn't get rerun if networking is restarted, but is only run once at boot.

"v2v" often means translating between different systems -- so kvm<->VMware, or RHEV, or such; from that perspective, there's a bit more going on than just copying the backing store.

comment Is it normal to give 'users' administrator access to their company PC?
Good point that the kind of user (and thus, the kind of organization) is a deciding factor. My experience is in doing administration for software development shops, but clearly requirements elsewhere can and do differ.

comment Domain without hosting - possible to redirect with DNS?
Depends on the details of your hosting -- if your existing hosting for B is a name-based vhost, for instance, that makes it a rather different animal.
