comment What backup solution you use for linux servers
@NikosAlexandris, I wouldn't use a backup product with the word "lucky" in the name - I don't like the connotation that "if you're lucky, you'll be able to restore it".

comment Can I put Tomcat offline when no request?
I bet if you run strace on your tomcat instance, you'll find out something in your app is doing something stupid, like busy waiting or polling a resource.

comment Can I put Tomcat offline when no request?
I have two separate servers running tomcat and between requests the load average goes down to below 0.1 and nothing is consuming CPU. Your app is broken.

How will it respond to a request if its asleep? Tomcat should not be consuming noticeable amounts of CPU when not processing a request. Time to look at your app to see what's wrong with it.

comment MySQL broke; how can I save some of the tables?
Shut down your web server, and try restarting MySQL server. Probably everything is fine. If not, aren't you glad you take daily backups?
