comment What can't be done in Powershell
Sigh. How about being constructive? Instead of trying to find the worst possible question from my phrasing? What I'm asking about is what cmdlet support is missing. I'll rephrase and hope.

I would say that asking what functionality is not included is a quite clear question? Can I phrase it in a clearer way?

comment Software RAID underneath ESXi datastore
I must say I've been quite surprised at the aggressiveness around this question. I thought I made it quite clear that I didn't really feel comfortable with this idea and wanted some insight if it was a feasible way forward. Apparently it is not, so I discarded it, as I noted in the comments above. I further started to write a meta post trying to understand why it seemed to evoke such hard feelings, when I found this: meta.serverfault.com/questions/5337. Practice what you preach?

@Roman: Interesting, why would it be bad for performance? But I understand the dependency issue, and I'll throw this idea out. Thanks.

All the hardware including SAS controller is on the HCL, but I guess this could extend beyond what is done for compatibility testing...

comment Exchange migration: ExchangeTransport warnings after uninstalling source server
Yes... I haven't had a suitable window to do an AD cleanup (well, seeing as how it's been more than a year, I probably have, but haven't had it on the top of my mental pile of todo). I'll try to get it done since it is still bugging me, but time is as always scarse. Sorry.

It has been sent to the moderators for migration, and if they agree they will move it over shortly :)

This should probably go on Superuser or ServerFault. Guessing Superuser due to hardware?

comment HKEY_USERS entry for service account
Hi! Yeah, I read that "we won't fix it"-note. Would be great if I could at least supply the host key I expect, but no such luck... The problem with your suggested approach as I see it is that there is no HKEY_USERS\[...] for this user, since it has never logged on. I don't think just creating it with regedit is going to be a very good idea, or am I just cowardly?

Sadly, I get this each time the job is run: Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.. So I suppose I need to log in after all.

@Zoredache: Good idea, but sadly it doesn't seem to work :(

@ChrisMcK: Nope. Those are created upon first (interactive?) login, aren't they? And this account has only logged in as a batch job.

I was thinking about doing that as a last resort. We will need to do this on several more servers in the future, and it's a manual step (or rather half a dozen manual steps) I'd rather avoid.

comment Letting internal applications use exchange's smtp
Thanks, that makes a lot of sense! Just wondering about the port change (since the RAID manager didn't like changing the port); there were three recieve connections on my exchange installation, Default, Windows SBS Sharepoint Fax and Windows SBS Internet Receive. All of these were configured to use port 25?

Accepting as you verify that it at least works some times. I'll just have to try and see what happens...

At least 8. I found a picture of a Sun StorEdge Multipack which seems to have done the thing I want, albeit quite a few years ago...

But, that said, thank you for sharing your experience! I'll go ahead and try it on a single disk first though... (see update)

Well, most of them are a bit clunky. The office does not have a server room, or even a rack, and most enclosures I've found are rackmounted, and seem sized to also contain a motherboard and a small family of chipmunks... What I want is just the disks, a power supply and external multilane connector(s). Those that are not too large are all QNAP or such, ie lots of features I do not want to pay for.

comment Where can I see my CAL usage?
@Wesley: Re. the edit: Thank you. I'll contact my reseller. Most likely they'll advice me to just get a few more, and from your and Chris's comments that seems like the way to go. Thanks again!
