I would not recommend using binary packages from debian experimental on anything but unstable. I would recommend compiling from the sources in debian unstable instead. add a deb-src for unstable and apt-get source apache2

natty narwhal is not a great choice. It's an unsupported release now, although not at the time you asked the question. wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases has the information on what's under support and till when. I'd stick with LTS releases personally, especially for a server.

comment w command not showing users when not root
It can only see your own processes in /proc/ in the presence of the grsecurity patch. w iterates over the whole process list in my strace of it. Not being able to see other user's processes probably triggers some display bug or the like.
