Just 200? Ah, so quite a small database then :) Nearly 600 in the one I'm working on.

@gravyface: Sure, I have 3389 open, restricted as you say, and I can RDP in. The filter shown in the screen shot above is a new one, created in response to TomTom's suggestion for the localhost permissions. It wasn't there at all when I started having the problems, so disabling it won't make any difference. If you mean unassign the policy, I could do that, although up to now I've been reluctant to expose the host like that, even briefly. I'll have to look into the IP-KVM question.

There's nothing much I can say really - sure, if I had the money, and knew someone I could rely on to do this stuff, I'd hire him or her. However, that's not an option, so I need to spend the time figuring out the basics. I'm not claiming to be skilled where I'm not, just doing the best I can with the resources I have. I'd obviously do a bit better if you could tell me what's wrong with my IPSEC filter on the other question, instead of haranguing me for my ineptitude.

@gravyface: yes, I've deleted the VM completely and recreated it with the same results, and no, I can't see anything relevant in the event log.

Well, I appreciate your ongoing help guys, and I'm the first to admit to my obvious n00b status when it comes to all this stuff. It's not that much of a mystery why we're obviously not getting everything right - we're a very small company, on an extremely tight budget, and we have to do everything ourselves, with a painful lack of knowledge and experience. Er, that's why I'm asking questions here.

Yes, there's no OS on the VM. No other VMs on the host. I've tried rebooting the host now - makes no difference.

Edited to show what happens when it fails. I've tried shutting down and restarting the guest, stopping and restarting the VM Manager Service, even deleting and recreating the Guest.
