comment SSLRequire syntax problems
I don't see the fundamental difference between your SSLRequire line and mine. Why would my SSLRequire cause a syntax error but not yours? This is especially intriguing to me, especially since moving the directive to the main server config "solved" the problem.

comment How do I fully qualify my domain name?
"For example, given a device with a local hostname myhost and a parent domain name example.com, the fully qualified domain name is myhost.example.com. The FQDN therefore uniquely identifies the device —while there may be many hosts in the world called myhost, there can only be one myhost.example.com. In the Domain Name System, and most notably, in DNS zone files, a fully qualified domain name is specified with a trailing dot. For example, somehost.example.com. specifies an absolute domain name that ends with an empty top level domain label." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fqdn

comment FreeBSD 8.2 + Apache 2.2 + mod_auth_pam2: unable to authenticate
@Chris S, that's useful advice for people having the same problem for servers that face the Internet (and I'd like to add that in such a situation, it would be worthwhile to use https instead since a sniffed password could compromise the box). In the actual configuration file, though, I also limit the access to this part of my site to machines on the local network, so I'm not worried about script kiddies.
