I'm a senior sysadmin and manager at Backstop Solutions Group. Getting lots of experience with CentOS and some Cisco hardware, as well as prodding my way through getting Puppet to work.

Tell us more: what SMTP server is installed (if any), what does its configuration look like, etc.

comment SMTP Servers, and ISPs
With your own SMTP server, you have to worry about deliverability: keeping your IP off of blacklists, not pissing off customers at big ISPs, dealing with complaints, etc. An outsourced company will do all of that for you.

Backticks around the code. code Try removing this line from your /etc/network/interfaces and then try an ifup lo again: pre-up iptables-restore < iptables.up.rules I'll explain if it works for you :)

comment Recommend a CCNA course / book / set of books to me
That's a valid question. I'm going to be managing some Cisco gear once I'm certified to do it, so I would like to actually know what I'm doing :)

Wait. your lo says it's down. how about an ifup lo and see if postfix is happier / ip addr output changes / something?

If the ip output you posted is correct, I think you have some serious network problems. Out of curiosity, do something like ipconfig lo 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 and see if things change.

comment What is the process of cleaning viruses from a network?
@Evan: I know. I just can count the number of sites I've seen doing it "right" on one hand... maybe without much flexibility :)

You can (or should be able to) mark things as accepted, which is kind of like marking them correct :)

I pasted an incomplete solution here, then edited to fix. The current one is right. A free upvote to the first person to comment explaining what's going on here :)
