comment rsync - failed to set permission - operation not permitted
This is not good advice. Yes, not trying to set permissions will stop it from setting permissions...but if the user wants permissions set then this is just hiding the real problem. I get this error even though the rsync user and target directory are the same user and the files have 777 permissions...

@PawełKarpiński, You'll still need to replicate the databases on a separate server group, otherwise the databases will be disconnected and their data will become out of sync. EC2 auto-scaling only supports creating new EC2 instances, not configuring servers running on those instances. I think RDS has this built-in.

Great post, but why do you not set thread count? Since Python's GIL negates a lot of the advantages of threads, I'd assume you'd want to have more processes than threads, but is there any advantage to specifying the thread count?
