Well, this is not a viable option since it is supposed to be used by non tech users (read manager, executive class). We can ask them to use SFTP upload because most are familiar with FileZilla/CyberDuck/WinSCP, but certainly not command line + rsync.

That's an interesting way to deal with the issue you have there, though not exactly what I'm after since it would involve having to track all devices ids, generating quite a process overhead (user side). I might consider it though if nothing better shows up.

I didn't know Gitolite. Thanks for the link. However, I have been asked to provide a solution without relying on third party tools/scripts (like gitosis or other similar tools). The repository will only be accessed by the dev team and all of them should be able to commit to any project, so I don't need in depth control of permissions. Basically, I need to stick with the standard system tools and git.
