comment Remote system's filesystem disappeared after “mdadm --grow 2 /dev/md0”?
You say /proc/mdstat looks fine - is it showing 2/2 devices?

comment How to add software RAID-1 to an existing system?
@MaxB let's say you pull a disk, put it on a shelf, and someone else picks it up and plugs it into another machine. No partition table (i.e. whole disk RAID)? Their OS may decide that it's "unformatted" and offer to format it for them. Then again, unknown partition type might equal "unformatted" too, depending on how clever the OS is. Label your disks if they're ever not in a machine! Label the disk caddies if they are in a machine.

@user3045068 If you have contacts there (and are on speaking terms) can you ask them what / how they are doing this?

How old are your disks? Sector size / alignment? Hardware RAID controller (you mention dmraid)?

comment Multi-part PXE boot not honoring next-server setting
Does the vendor provide any documentation for pxe.0? Is there a good reason why you can't put DHCP and TFTP on the same system, if that works?

@user3045068 Can you or your directors say for 100% that the "other org" doesn't have a RDS gateway or VPN? Does the other org have more money than you? If you can't rule those out, ask for more money to implement the solution.

Are you logging in as root or yourself? Would a future person need to log in as root or themselves?

comment find or locate Windows Server 2008 R2 volume license key
Rumour has it that Microsoft don't care that much about which of your keys you use, as long as you have enough licenses to cover all your installations, and you have documented that you have a license for each install.

comment Linux SW Raid: whole disk or per-partition?
swap not being on RAID = kernel panic if your swap disappears due to a failed disk. GRUB2 has supported booting from LVM for quite a while now, and swap can quite happily exist inside LVM as it's own LV.

comment Finding the origin of a package not from an official repository?
How many people have access to sudo? Could it have been manually downloaded & installed via dpkg -i? Could a fpm / checkinstall generated .deb be in use?
