@Cyrille yes, I think you can still remove it. From access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/…: "RPC processes notify rpcbind when they start, registering the ports they are listening on and the RPC program numbers they expect to serve. The client system then contacts rpcbind on the server with a particular RPC program number. The rpcbind service redirects the client to the proper port number so it can communicate with the requested service". There are no services on a client. But, test first.

@mispy: well, that's design of upstart: to be able to reliably monitor a daemon, it needs to know its forking behaviour and pid files do not help (as pids they contain can differ from reality).
