comment SSH jump box/host/server
Indeed, no need to use a physical dedicated server for SSH. Will use a VM for it. Although a VPN tunnel is an added security layer, I think it may also obstruct me from logging in from my mobile phone for example. I am currently allowing SSH from certain hosts only, but also want general access when I am away from those hosts.

comment Cannot load Memcached in PHP on Gentoo
Thank you so very much. I had extension_dir = "/etc/php/apache2-php5.3/" activated in /etc/php/apache2-php5.3/php.ini. I disabled it and it's working. Thanks for healing 2 days worth of pain.

why should I do that? Anyway, first I tried just with one module installed and it also didn't work, then I installed both. But fine, I will give it a try again.

Yes, I have encountered this already as I did search my error prior to posting here. That is why I have installed both Memcache and Memcached. Also, Memcached php module is not to be confused with memcached -> the daemon.

comment renaming hard drives (sdc to sdb) on the fly
seemed to be an argument issue. supplying different ones like 1.0.0.0 would not yield an error anymore. but I still couldn't rename the hdd.

yes, ran it as root.

comment On a shared server, how do you run a script / process at startup?
reboot is only for privileged accounts. adding reboot in a user's crontab will give a permission denied, as crontab runs that command with the user's privilege, not with root.

this one actually worked, ". script"

well, I can't do it like this because I must assume that $LIST already contains variables set up manually by the user, and I need to drop them in order the set up same ones with different values. But yes, I ended up using -v, as you also suggested.

comment Squid via Haproxy
I do not have access to any router. I can only implement linux-based solutions, that's why I need to find a way so that when a node has no internet access, the other working node is chosen by Squid. And I was thinking at HAproxy for this.

comment Same command on multiple servers
@sebastianopilla I was referring to the cygwin window itself, not the other windows contained in it. So the one that it is displayed in your Taskbar, can you resize that one?

comment Same command on multiple servers
@sebastianopilla how many servers do you open in one session? do you have more than 10? I have two LCDs but I cannot resize the cygwin window, so I'm basically stuck to one LCD's size (17", 1280x1024) and if I want to open more sessions I cannot cram them up in there. Can you resize?

comment grub crc error after decompressing linux
I just installed a fresh linux on the ex-sdb and even with this one grub gives errors - error 18, which I googled and somebody said: "18 is a hard-disk read on the wrong cylinder or such".
