I've been programming since I was 10. I started by simply copying code listings printed in magazines. Currently very much into C#/.NET in general, especially the cool new extensions for .NET 3.5.

You will probably get more relevant answers on Serverfault.com. I'll vote to get this moved to that sub-site. The sysadmins hang around there ;-)

@Spirit : Nothing too bad really. We couldn't blame him, because we shouldn't have assumed that he knew everything. Eventually it was a structural problem with procedures, we didn't think we needed to check eachother's work. I can advise you to always ask when you're not sure, especially when dealing with publicly available servers ;-)

Accepted. I think I will go for setting up a test environment in our 'free initiative' time, to show that we're skilled enough to use and manage it. When we've got that set up, it's basically about getting it covered by SLA fees our clients pay. But honestly, when it's set up it's not more expensive to manage than our current setup, so it's only the setup and testing that costs money. And THAT will be covered by our free time!

I think that might work. I think that's my biggest flaw though, my view is always from a technical perspective. I KNOW that it's better, I can explain why, but I have a hard time quantifying it. Thing is that we haven't had any outages for a long time (cross fingers), so it's hard to say 'but what if!'. Maybe I could find some testimonials on the web, see if I can make a case. Just me saying 'but it's better' doesn't really hold. And it shouldn't, really.
