comment How to take snapshot of the filesystem in linux (files, their sizes only, not their data)
What kind of changes? Content of files, or just changes in the metadata, like permissions or ownership?

comment Do I need seperate iptables rule for ipv6 address?
Do you have IPv6 enabled by default? A lot of distros these days come with it enabled. If yes, then you definitely want to filter out IPv6 explicitly, as IPv6 has a lot of built in connectivity, even if you don't configure it.

comment Can I get apache to log only a sample of the requests?
So you mean 'sample' in a statistically proper way, not the layperson's version, right?

You're correct, that's what I get for doing regex before coffinating myself ;)

comment How can I solve the apache2 httpd error “mixing * ports and non-* ports with a NameVirtualHost address is not supported”
You cannot mix the two types on the same ip:port. I've had a setup where I had two ip's, one had massvhost hanging off it, the other had all the regular namebased hosts. More importantly, what is the goal? What are you trying to achieve? What are your constraints?

comment Is part of the job of being a sysadmin tinkering and experimenting?
I completely agree, there's only that many patches to be applied, and backups to be performed before you go insane if you dont get to play with something new/shiny/different.

comment How Options work in Apache
Your ServerName should probably not have the :8009 portion, just the actual name.

comment Do routers have IP Addresses?
'Router has a minimum of two interfaces' instead of two IP's would be more correct.

comment Password lifetimes, length, complexity and history. Is there something to help?
Slack doesn't do PAM. Or it hasn't done it in the past, I haven't played with it in a while. You can always test your shadow file with John the Ripper and some wordlists.

comment Is there a paging version of `watch`?
Why not just open a bigger window and go away with paging altogether?

comment Alias to twisted server content?
There is no limit on how many times one content can be served out. There is however a limit of one daemon listening to one (or more) ports and not sharing them with any other daemons.

comment How can I prevent that a server admin can see data?
Even in SELinux if you're root, you can do 'setenforce 0' and you're free again. In Trusted Solaris you don't have one root, you got four of them, with 'partial' powers of traditional root. Good idea, but it's kinda difficult to get anything done, if you need multiple people executing different commands.

comment What tools should every sysadmin use that no one's heard of?
Tail doesn't color on patterns. You also can't scroll back and view the backlog.

comment What are the correct permissions for /etc/init.d/ scripts?
Why do regular users need to see where all the configs and other system-only stuff is? I set it all to 0700

comment Favorite Unix command line aliases?
Storing passwords in scripts like this is potentially dangerous, unless you got it 600. Also upon execution your password goes to history file--also potentially dangerous.
