comment snmpv3 EngineID for Traps in net-snmp
This might work, for my team, we're only listening for traps, not querying the devices, but if we did query, I'm not sure how snmpEngineID.0 works. I can find it at SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.2.1.1.7.1, I must be missing a MIB... any thoughts?

You may be able to do a conversion to CentOS, or grab the single CentOS package for bash.

comment Cisco CGS2520 switch to reveal MAC address when port goes active?
Very clear answer. I'll have to consider how to use the MAC table for this kind of function. Thanks.

comment TCP rsyslogd events showing up as 2000 character continuations
the admin of the source device changed things over to UDP and everything works now. Downside was that I didn't get my network trace.

comment First 500MB of RAID6 array is wiped, how to recover?
Operating on a duplicate image would be the right way to do this, but it's understandable that the array might be too large to take a snapshot of it within budget. Thing is, you probably can recover a lot from this volume. If you screw up the recovery, you can't. If the budget is really too constrained, use another machine, reproduce a similar configuration and reproduce the problem. You might be able to just give the mount command an alternate superblock. cyberciti.biz/tips/mounting-with-an-alternative-superblock.html

I'll set up the trace and see if I can find a line termination character, it's possible something is being ignored. Templates sound like a good place to start looking.

By "public address" and "network address" you mean that you're using the external facing IP address vs. the internal facing IP address?

comment Setting backup-permissions for C:\Users
Did you reach a conclusion? I had to manually grant permissions for Backuppc to reach my home directory, it was very ugly. No amount of permission seemed to be enough for a BackupPC user.

comment Group Ownership in rsyslog?
It looks like CentOS 6.5 is on rsyslog v5, which doesn't support the new syntax. I'm testing a solution with logrotate now. serverfault.com/questions/497635/…
