I've worked extensively with Borland Pascal and Delphi and was one of the original members of Borland's TeamB on Compuserve for over a decade. More recently my interests have moved to C# and Microsoft's .NET framework.

What causes “Reconnections made” statistics on network? Thank you! I figured there must be a more modern version of those statistics. Any idea what might cause the huge number of reconnects? |

Security of BitLocker with no PIN from WinPE? I hoped that someone made a TPM module on a USB header that could be plugged onto a motherboard header, but I sure can't find one. It appears that TPM requires special BIOS support so it's either a feature of the motherboard or it isn't. Looking at newegg.com, it looks like TPM on the motherboard is a pretty rare option at this point. Perhaps that will change with Windows 8 and it's secure boot support? |

Security of BitLocker with no PIN from WinPE? Based on your information, I played with this a bit and you're absolutely correct that when only using the USB key you can unlock the drive from the WinPE environment. It's NOT necessary to use the recovery key. I don't have a TPM so I can't verify the "watching the boot process" part, but I've heard that before so I assume you're correct on that. In the end, I suppose that's the whole point of TPM. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a way to add TPM to an existing machine that doesn't already have it. |

Security of BitLocker with no PIN from WinPE? I did some experimentation based on your and Chris' answers. The problem with using the USB key without TPM is that if it's present in the machine when you boot into the WinPE environment, it gives you access to the encrypted drives. So the USB startup key is sufficient access for the encrypted data regardless of knowing any account information. You DO NOT need the recovery key in this context. |
