comment What design features make Joyent's ZFS and Amazon's EBS (S3) reliable?
And have it checksummed so you know if there is a corruption, which copy is correct.

Also note RolandPJ's answer on AWS forum, specifically "EBS does not provide strong guarantees on data corruption. While there are some hardware checks, it is possible that bit rot may occur in an EBS volume." forums.aws.amazon.com/message.jspa?messageID=98747#98747

comment DNS - Any way to force a nameserver to update the record of a domain?
For mac: dscacheutil -flushcache flushes the local cache in the operating system, not the bind name server. rndc flush will clear the bind name server on a mac which will affect all computers using that name server.

comment Is it possible to create an EBS AMI for windows EC2 instance?
Thanks - there's the quotes from Amazon reference that I found while formulating my answer. I'll give your answer the tick for its completeness :)

comment Why do I get “Permission denied (publickey)” when trying to SSH from local Ubuntu to a Amazon EC2 server?
In my case, I was using a bitnami .ami and didn't realise that you need to log in as the user called bitnami, like: ssh -i <keyfile> bitname@<ec2-address>. Unfortunately the -v option didn't help me find this, but it's still very useful to check!

comment Subversion error: Repository moved permanently to please relocate
I had put an Alias directive in my config, eg Alias svn /repositories and then set up everything in <Location /svn/ >. The problem was exactly as in the FAQ link, although mysteriously, it worked perfectly for a month and then stopped on a Wednesday afternoon at tea time. If your repository is at "/" then you'll have an overlap with your DocumentRoot directive.
