comment Does orientation affect hard drive lifespan?
@thomasrutter - Those head handles are grossly overdimensioned, so I doubt there is a risk of any sagging. Even in picometers, or whatever their dimensional unit is.

comment What have you done, as a system administrator, for ecology?
I cannot think to read all on monitors, paper is still paper. As far as ecology and "realms of paper" goes, well, don't print it all - just the relevant parts you're interested in. In most modern books, it takes 30 pages just to get to the table of contents.

comment How to get files out of a floppy image
@Ernie - because maybe images come from a time when they didn't have cdrom's ? Images of some installation discs which required for everything to be just like on the discs, including disc name and so on.

comment How are “locked” files handled by the system (i.e. WinXP)?
Yes, it was a relatively large file (video transferred from a camera). As I said to John, I've noticed this behaviour with explorer locking/cmd being able to delete the file a few times before, but only just now I thought of asking why is that so.

What are the chances explorer "released" it a second before I opened a cmd window ?

I'm sorry I didn't vidcap it, but that's what happened. I still didn't close that explorer window. I noticed this behaviour a few times before, although I never made any thought on it.
