comment What's solution for have reserved server for network problems
That's true i guess if you live in america or europe. Afaik plenty of places still have frankly terrible network stability as the norm, often combined with pretty poor electrical stability.

comment How to add SSH known host in a bash script?
This is better than my answer (safer). A further improvement on yoonix's answer though is to parse 'ssh-keyscan github.com' and store the returned key into ~/.ssh/known_hosts that way it isn't static in a file somewhere for you to need to update.

then this'll work - it won't accept the key though, it'll ignore it entirely. Yoonix's answer is better

comment Automatically assign elastic IP to ec2 spot instance with user data script
i do something similar for normal non-vpc instances using an EIP tag on the instance. So i think your method is sound.

comment Amazon EC2 instance “sudo reboot” not coming back up
if one of the two status checks has failed, try stopping the instance, then starting it again. that sometimes works for me on a few of my instances. Needless to say, regular snapshots are a god send.

instance size ? syslog output ? disk storage type ? service status checks ? need way more information.

comment DNS Portability with regards to LDAP/Kerberos
nope. the ldap server is just an ldap server. the only time youll get into a mess is if you have multiple ldap servers and you want to contact them on one name (failing over if one breaks) and also use SSL. Otherwise you should be fine as long as your dns records on each dns server are the same. All dns does is convert the name to an IP.

you might want to look at ipa. it does both in one easy to use package.

comment FreeIPA issue: after ipa1 server kernel panic, not switching to ipa2 failover server
ah, fair enough. you can actually do the replica last if you really want - for future reference. It'll sync over any missing data when it initializes the replica.

hmm, i guess that's reasonable. I've not tried that in anger though (or glacier for that matter, we use Sydney and it wasn't available when we looked into it)
