comment Bacula tape changing
I've found something similar on the web and I'm using it with success. It's not ejecting to the IO slot, but it's useable. The reason I want this is because a daily backup is only half a tape, but company policy requires a tape to leave the building every day.

comment Suggest a lightning fast, feature-light, secure Linux web server to serve static content
You could always use python: " python -m SimpleHTTPServer " this will server the current directory on port 8000.

If only the executives weren't paranoid about their data.. google apps could save me a lot of time and the company a lot of money

comment What sysadmin things should every programmer know?
Absolutely. I can't begin to count the hours I've spent searching for problems in the wrong places due to people pointing me in the wrong direction

comment What is the best modular customizable linux distro?
Arch Linux will be less time consuming than Gentoo. Don't get me wrong, I like them both, but Arch is usually less hassle than Gentoo. Please note: Arch is only for i686 or x86_64, if you want other architectures, go with Gentoo.

comment How are you documenting your work, processes and environment?
Sad but true. I try to write as much documentation as possible. But other things are usually more important for the company.

Never had any problems with NTFS-3G, I've been using it for quite a while.

comment What is the most ethically or morally questionable sysadmin task you have been given?
Exactly. This is what I've told everyone where I work. "You can surf to any website you want, but it'll be monitored"

+1 for this. It's not because we make it look easy that it actually is.

comment Configure Wi-Fi adapters in Linux
wpa_supplicant + dhcpcd will do this automaticly for you. If it's just the wireless setup, this combination will do just fine.

comment Install Linux over ssh
For Gentoo type these after the cd loads: (the ssh server doesn't auto start) $ /etc/init.d/sshd start $ passwd and enter the password for root $ ifconfig to check your IP and you're set. (assuming you have network up and running)

No server is complete without screen.

Arch ftw! Same power as Gentoo, less hassle.

comment What are some of the things I must be aware when moving from windows servers to linux servers?
I second this. Using a GUI on a Linux server is too much overhead, you don't need all the GUI libs when running a server.

comment How do you choose a server Operating System?
Exactly. Only run Windows servers if the services you need are Windows-based. Everything else you can do with Linux.
