comment Postfix “AUTH-LOGIN” no longer being offered for smtp auth after upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04.1
The 10.04 LTS -> 12.04 LTS upgrade is indeed broken, at least when it comes to the mail system.

comment Can you Recommend Free DNS Name Servers?
As of 2013 free dyndns ain't what it used to be. Once in a while it looses another feature you'll miss a lot. Taken the payed services into account you'll get more for less anywhere else.

Your question updates raise additional questions that should be posted separately. As they are related it may be wise to link them. SF is a Q&A Site, Not a forum ;-)

comment What is the name of this screw? (from HP ProLiant quick-deploy rail kits)
I guess he bought a bunch of these kits some of which missing those screws. Whatever is the reason for demanding them - who cares? I don't... If you was the person wanting to get/buy some of these, a name would be handy. I remember lots of different types of screws for Rhode&Schwartz equipment. They all had names and part numbers - and the manufacturer will know them.

If you want to order these, the name/order code is mandatory.

No doubt the client does not want any solution. They want a decline. So they can say, they tried at least.

comment Hijacking a SSH connection from the server to control the client
@Jonas: Since you already solved it, you won't need it anymore but for completeness: Metasploit eases the search.

comment Hijacking a SSH connection from the server to control the client
If you can access the hole filesystem via php or ftp via remote, there is a chance to place a script to started from cron. Or you could try to exploit (other) security holes if your late with security patches (bind comes in mind).

Is there any problem using one NIC with multiple IPs (eg use as Proxy or Firewall as service for others)?

comment Execute a Perl script after reboot on Solaris 10
Why do you switch the scripts? What's wrong with one conditional rc.script running your 1st reboot script if (insert logic here: eg. last reboot done by your perl script or last reboot > 10 mins ago) and your pl script else? You could even use a another file containing the script to load next. Did I miss something? BTW, what does the log say?

@hmontoliu: then again it seems wise to use the deprecated restart since you cannot forget the starting command

comment Error using sudo
One of the first things todo on a fresh ubuntu is running sudo su and then passwd. Choose long secure password and keep a hardcopy of it along with your hardware documents - just to be safe.

comment Why does apt-get install also upgrade unrelated packages?
In such a case I would have tried it there first, as there are possibly more users with problems like that and you'll get propably more answers. On the other hand, this may affect also other debian like distros, so asking it here is wise too.

Did you generate mypass using htpasswd? Have you tried to use a rather simple password to exclude encoding issues?
