I spend my professional time working with Linux server technologies.

I previously obtained an RHCE, and studied Computing and Statistics for an undergraduate degree and am currently working through a Medicinal Chemistry MSc.

Have made some minor contributions to some open-source projects on github; https://github.com/tolland

and maintain a terrible ranty, unresearched speculation blog on blogspot.co.uk; http://take-your-vitamins.blogspot.com/

None of this is fit for human consumption.

unfortunately I don't have access to any of that. The best I can hope for is an app to run on the box taking metrics.

I could make a log entry every 1 seconds, and then parse the text file for missing values

if the machine was completely hung, then it wouldn't respond to ping, or write log events, so presumably I could detect breaks in logging to the event log

so we have the logs from the server side, and the client is not even connected. The problem seems to be possibly that it is slow recovering from hibernation, but the UX report is not clear. Also I don't have direct access to the machines, nor to the nurses.

comment decrypting AES files in an apache module?
If you are referring to the other answer, then you should probably have made your "Don't roll your own crypto. answer" as a comment to that instead.

I think there is a difference between "rolling your own [de]crypto", and writing a piece of code that uses some other well designed, and well tested de/crypto library, and wrapping that functionality to make it available to some other software.
