Name resolution in an IPv6 network without a DNS server Thanks, Avahi and Bonjour Print Services did the trick, although I have to add ".local" to hostnames for multicast DNS to work. I also noticed that the Windows machines are already doing LLMNR among themselves. |

Name resolution in an IPv6 network without a DNS server Oh, and if a moderator feels that the question is more suitable for SU, feel free to migrate it. |

Name resolution in an IPv6 network without a DNS server @JohnGardeniers My apologies, I forgot that home networks belong to SU. But on the other hand, I also administer a small network at work, and I'm experimenting with IPv6 in my home network so I apply it later at work (no harm done if I break my home network). I'll remove "home" from my question. |

What sort of magic is my ISP doing? And just to be sure, when I use OpenDNS, I can confirm that DNS queries to supposedly blocked websites really return OpenDNS's "blocked website" address. But when I request a page from that address, I get the real page instead. |

What sort of magic is my ISP doing? Nope, I'm sure it's my ISP. This happens even if I'm not using OpenDNS. |

What sort of magic is my ISP doing? Yep, that was it. Against Tom O'Connor's advice, I'll ask the ISP about it and see if it can be turned off for me. |

DHCP and/or DNS server with dynamic 'upstream' @PervonZweigbergk : That's a good idea. And no, there is no reason to not use an external DNS server (other than me not thinking about it). My problem is fixed now, thanks. |

Best system administrator accident True story: this happened with me 9 years ago, but with an Air Conditioner and from the window of the 9th floor. It wasn't my fault (I was just helping someone), and no one was injured, but I felt sick for days. |
