comment Change Block Tracking settings not retained for a VM on VMWare 5.5
I thought about editing the config file, but that feels like a hack to me. And it does look like it's a (little) known bug; I edit the question to reflect that.

No, it's not enabled. The setting is lost and when I review the status of CBT on the servers with powercli, it returns false.

Backup Exec 2012.

Yes I did read that kb article. The setting disapears immediately after adding it. i.e. I add the row with the option name and value, and if you re-sort the list, the setting is already gone. I have 30+ other servers which have the setting enabled (I'm not sure if it's the default or if Symantec RAWS sets it at install), and this one server is cloned from the same template as another server where it works.

The goal is to enable CBT, which improves the performance of incremental backups.

comment How to Shrink a Volume on Equallogic SAN
I did not. It's not a critical server so if I need that space I'll delete the volume and recreate, especially in light of your comment.

I still have some concerns, but it looks like that's the Equallogic way to do it, thanks.

Thanks for the input; the note concerns me: "Be careful when decreasing the size of a volume. It is possible to decrease volume space to less than what is currently being used." How do I ensure that there isn't something being used that I'm not aware of?

If you run the commands directly from powershell (forgetting TeamCity for now), what happens? Does it work ok?

comment low disk space on server but file sizes don't add up
A much better interface to work with; it's purpose is to show you where space is being used on your hard drive. If you want to use dir, then you need to include the /a:sh otherwise you wouldn't get system and hidden files.
