comment Disallowing certain user from dumping database (MySQL)
@Johan Why would a user be allowed to view every single record but not dump the db? They amount to the same thing, i.e. permission to read the contents of the db.

It's a pretty old question but I'll try to set up this stack again later today, just for the sake of accepting the correct answer. Thanks for answering!

Is SELinux running in enforcing mode? Does temporarily disabling it solve the problem?

Actually, while Fedora has SELinux installed and enabled by default, Ubuntu does not.

comment lighttpd on Fedora permission issues
If this looks like a permissions problem and the file permissions are set correctly, my gut instinct tells me it could be SELinux. Try disabling it to see if that fixes anything. You might need to change the security context of your webroot folder if SELinux turns out to be the culprit.

Never used it myself, but Firefox comes with a tool called certutil (mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/tools/certutil.html). I think that can do what you need, for Firefox at least.

The EPEL repositories (fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL) also offer RabbitMQ-server 2.6.1 in their repository for CentOS/RHEL 6. Here's a guide to get you going: johnpoelstra.com/2010/12/23/rhel-6-epel

I ran this command on my Fedora 16 laptop, but the command applies to any system with yum and rpm, such as RHEL or CentOS.

comment Dropbox writes files owned by root on server
Let me put this in other terms: Dropbox doesn't really have anything fancy for setting file permissions and ownership, because it's meant for syncing pdf files and vacation pictures. Real deployment tools on the other hand...

There is a better way to achieve what you need: Don't use DropBox on a server. Try Capistrano or Fabric if you need a deployment tool.
