comment Permissions Issue? Putty + Plink + Pageant + Powershell + Scheduled Task
Interestingly enough, adding the -batch argument appeared to do better than tell me why it failed -- it actually appears to have made it start working! I see the output I expect to see in the log file. After some more testing I'm going to confirm this as the answer.

Hi arober, thanks for responding. using -v -i -noageant and a passwordless private key produced same results -- works perfectly from the console, works perfectly from command prompt calling powershell.exe C:\Path\To\Script.ps1 -- and hangs from a scheduled task. I don't see any output in the event log even with the -v flag.

comment powershell call operator with multiple arguments?
Interestingly enough, that didn't fix it, but writing out the entire string does...from the command line. See my answer. It works for the console, and when I call powershell.exe C:\Scripts\script.ps1 but doesn't work from a scheduled task (which I think is a separate problem)

Ahh, a GREAT point. I added the host key as my user account but it wouldn't have been added as the server account. I'll use PsExec to run the command prompt as my service account and add the host key that way to ensure it's not the issue. I'll report back; thanks for the tip

comment Can I schedule machine boot via Dell iDRAC?
This does appear to be the case. I found an internal cloud datacenter to throw a management VM on and am using an SSH script on this to remote into the idrac and use racadm to send a powerup command to the server. It's working perfectly manually; working on the scheduled task aspect of it now. Thanks for the straightforward answer! This did end up being the way to go.

comment Can I schedule machine boot via Dell iDRAC?
I should clarify: Not worried about OOB on the DRAC -- looking to use the DRAC connection to power up the box itself in a scheduled manner. We are powering them off ahead of time and I do know when I want them to come up, but I won't be there, hence trying to schedule them to come up in the easiest way possible.

comment Can I schedule machine boot via Dell iDRAC?
thanks for the response. 1) I'm referring to turning the machine on via an idrac which will come up automatically when the machine regains power. 2) thanks, i'll probably have to script it 3) we have many buildings/datacenters; only one is going down 4) I know how to do it manually, I'm looking to script it so I don't have to get up at 3am :) 4) that's the direction I'm going I think. Thanks!

comment Powershell VMWare Script not running from Scheduled Task
I believe this highlights the issue indeed. I was attempting to call the script directly from the .ps1 extension, which this answer helped reveal as a bad idea. Calling powershell.exe from cmd with the files worked perfectly. Thank you!
