comment vCenter 5.1 SSO Configuration option not available in Web Client?
Thanks for that tip! I'm using chrome; didn't think it could be the browser. I'll check tomorrow and see if that's it.

@t1nt1n when attempting to browse to that site, it appears that nothing is there. have tried http/https and IP/FQDN in the browser to access that port. Have also tried accessing this url both remotely and locally. Can you provide some more insight into why you're suggesting these steps?

comment Steps after installing vCenter Server?
Rob, as far as I can tell the only ports I've changed were on the server from 80 -->8080 and 443 --> 8443. I can access those via a web browser on my client machine fine.

@RobM, Windows Firewall is turned off but we've got Symantec Endpoint Protection on there and that's a fair point. I'm in the process of getting the domain admins to check that out (nothing in the logs but can't be sure).

comment vCenter server with both academic and Federal licensing?
Wasn't aware of that but it makes sense. I'll rephrase my question around vCenter's technical capabilities, since that's what I'm concerned with. Thanks!
