I haven't tested this myself, but it should keep all your speakers in sync.

I don't have the answer to you main question, but I can tell you that FQDN stands for "fully qualified domain name", i.e. a host name that ends in a TLD like x.y.com or z.local.

There's no reason the diff test has to be run as often as the up test. It's trivial in Nagios to set different tests to run at different intervals, you could do a daily diff while poling to see if the service is live every 5 mins.

Oh how embarrassing this is - I found a link to a working proxy command that still compiles on OS X 10.7 Lion, and still works, ON MY OWN BLOG! In my defence the post is 6 years old, but still. Working instructions here: bartbusschots.ie/blog/?p=184

Unfortunately the page you link to is out of date, and the link to the patched version of the binary is dead - 404 error.

What is your aim here, to control who can access the internet, or to control who can access your WiFi?

Just to re-enforce that MAC locking is NOT security, it's nothing more than the digital equivalent of a 'keep out' sign. Packet headers CANNOT be encrypted, and because it just files through the air ANYONE can see the traffic, so you just read off a MAC address, change the MAC on your card to the address you read, and you have access. There are tools to do this automatically, so any idiot can do this in a few seconds. YOU MUST ENCRYPT YOUR WIFI!

comment Define Variables in Nagios Config?
I'd hoped to avoid having to use templates because we already use templates and you can't have multiple inheritance, so I've had to chain the inheritance and duplicate the list twice - it's not pretty, but it does work.
