comment Small network: any disadvantages to downgrading to local accounts with mapped drives only?
I would like point out that whether or not you use Active Directory or not, that if the "Server" is still serving files, your legally required to maintain the same licensing. You could do it cheaper with a cheap NAS however.

Assuming it was properly installed :)

NAT does not incur latency, but it can make forwarding complicated. This sounds like a link stability issue.

When you use Anyconnect, are you referencing the same group as when you use the IPSec connection?

Are they using the same or different IP pools? How about you post some configuration snippets?

It's automatic on Sonicwall, unless you specifically disable it, I believe.

comment Static into OSPF Redistribution
The only thing that comes to mind is setting up a VRF and having it peer to itself in that VRF so that you have this cute little island onboard to show you what's being exported into your routing topologies

How would the originator of the route also be a receiver? This request doesn't make sense at all?

comment Can I use deploy Lync on 1 server without reverse proxy?
Right, thats exactly what I thought too... the user outside still needs to talk to the front end server, and a reverse proxy CAN be used to protect it, and their documentation doesn't even say how to deploy it without one. The web-conferencing, and other services though still need an edge server that you point those URLs at.

I don't know why, I just know it won't even let you do that. If you were using virtualization you could certainly use the same hardware for both purposes. The documentation is pretty clear the the front end role and the "edge" role cannot co-exist on the same server.
