No joke, I've seen too many people get burned by this. Whatever partitional or LVM scheme you end up with please TEST expansion and the procedure to do so before putting into production. You don't want to guess at this AFTER the fact.

Well RAID5 will let you get to your 8TB with just the 6 drives, and you can leave some hot spares. Are you THAT concerned about dual disk failure?
