I've had to do this often on 2008/Win7 boxes. Not sure why but I've seen some configurations become sticky and this very nicely blows it out and fixes it.

I don't think that would work, its a peer to peer connection. Most likely any inexpensive device is going to simply use a type of QoS with a firewall filter used to classify the traffic based on known source or destination ports. Something like a packet analyzer could detect the payload and do a little more with it.

Antoine: Hamachi most definitely can give you access to all the machines on your LAN. It's a mesh peer to peer VPN, and one box on your lan can act as a gateway.
