comment Is there a tutorial for setting up OpenVPN on Amazon's EC2 running a Windows 2008 server?
There is a problem which makes running OpenVPN on 2008/R2 impossible on Amazon EC2.

I have spent many hours on this same problem. Did you ever find a fix? Is it not possible to use OpenVPN in Windows on Amazon EC2?

I have already moved the site's files to /var/www/host.bananas.net/files/, which I prefer. How should I set a DocumentRoot for https://bananas.net/files/index.php? Thanks.

What should I make the DocumentRoot, now that the site within /files/ is not at the root? What needs to run is https://bananas.net/files/index.php.

@nhinkle: Isn't Samba just a file server? Can it do all the LDAP stuff to make it an alternative to a Windows domain controller?

It's really Acronis Snap Deploy which is perfectly suited to this: acronis.co.uk/enterprise/products/snapdeploy

comment I cannot figure out why `netdom join` is not working
All machines mentioned are Hyper-V virtual machines, but I cannot see how this could make a difference. I just thought I'd mention it just in case it does.

comment Are there dual port PCIe x1 gigabit NICs available?
@Sirex: I meant if it uses PCIe v1, v2, etc. PCIe v1 x1 would get saturated by two gigabit ports running at full duplex. ESXi is actually based on Red Hat, but the HCL is quite restrictive.

The problem is that the it has a Realtek chipset which usually does not work with VMware ESXi, and I have not been able to find out if this particular one does - probably not. The specs do not mention which revision of PCI Express it requires us.startech.com/product/…. I'll look for more information on it, and at least I know that they do exist. Thanks.

comment 2008 R2 Hyper-v guests are corrupting network traffic
@Rick: I cannot think of anything further. You could consider using VMware ESXi instead. It's not much more difficult to use. I have voted to migrate this to Server Fault.

@Rick: What I meant was: Did you have Hyper-V (and VMs) running succesfully on the same machine in the past? ie. Is this a new problem that has occured?

I recommend the HP ProLiant ML115 G5 pedestal server, or whatever G6 model that has replaced it. They are very cheap for what you get. I got a 100% rebate on the Lights-Out remote access card for mine.

If you do not find an answer here, go to the Sysinternals Forums, which are very good for help with the PStools. forum.sysinternals.com/pstools_forum8.html

comment Pointing Domain to Server
Top level domains (TLDs) are actually .com, .net, org, etc., domain.com is a domain, and www.domain.com, mail.domain.com, etc, are subdomains.
