comment Why uninstall did not remove the corresponding folder?
+1. Behaviour of the installer/uninstaller is entirely down to whoever wrote them, and is it really that big a deal anyway?

comment What is the failure rate of servers being moved physically from one location to another?
@Satanicpuppy: Have you seen a 2850? They're designed for easy drive removal. No substantive concerns there.

comment “Connection failed” error when trying to telnet into SQL Server
If you don't know whether or not a firewall is active, and you don't know if it's across a VPN or not, I suspect that (1) you're not authorised to be doing this, (2) you're not an admin, and (3) your motives may not be honourable.

"With all those servers I'd be more worried about things getting put back together wrong" - that's why you label them properly. I'd consider it a wash too.

XP machine ain't on the domain so this would be the local policy only.

comment Windows XP Professional will not save network credentials between reboots
Any particular reason why the XP machine can't be joined to the domain? That would seem to be the most obvious solution.

The correct technical term for the tool is a LART. ;) Use of quicklime and halon are also mandatory.

You're better off not using the /3GB switch unless you know for certain that you need it. Generally only large databases really need it. Only having 1 GB of address space for the OS stuff can actually be detrimental to performance most of the time.
