Formerly known as "Jimmy Shelter".

Then one appeared among us, in our own form visible, but greater and more beautiful; and he said that he had come out of pity.

I'm like the Clint Eastwood of backups. I drift into town, say "ahm-a gonna clean up yer backups", shoot the place up a bit, get rid of the bad guys, then drift back out again.

Been there, done that, still doing it.

comment What is the fastest and safest RAID combination for SATA drives?
RAID 10 is actually no more inefficient in terms of available storage than RAID 1, although you do need 4 disks minimum for it.

comment localhost in a DNS zone
4.1 of 1912 is actually quite explicit on it: ietf.org/rfc/rfc1912.txt

comment MS SQL Server slows down over time?
Autogrow is harmless provided it rarely happens. When it gets bad is when it's used as a substitute for proper sizing, which I suspect is what TomTom really means. Otherwise by all means use it.

comment Windows 2003 Domain Controller Very Upset about NIC Teaming
You could probably create a dependency in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\servicename - have a look at something like winmgmt to get the format required. It should be enough to do it for the DNS server as AD will in turn have a dependency on that.

comment NetBIOS “free” network?
2003 works fine without for us (and 2000 before it). I think the standard MS advice about not being able to pull it out comes with an assumption that you're migrating from (or interoperating with) 5.5, and the experience might be different in different networks.

comment How do I become a scripting guy?
+1 in general but especially for "I'm a big fan of learning to do things with what comes STANDARD with the OS, so you don't get yourself stuck saying "I don't know how to do this" when you need to do something but installing something isn't an option."
