Formerly known as "Jimmy Shelter".

Then one appeared among us, in our own form visible, but greater and more beautiful; and he said that he had come out of pity.

I'm like the Clint Eastwood of backups. I drift into town, say "ahm-a gonna clean up yer backups", shoot the place up a bit, get rid of the bad guys, then drift back out again.

Been there, done that, still doing it.

And are they aware that DR is not just an IT problem? A lot of places seriously think of DR in terms of IT alone, and don't have plans for their paper files.

On the other hand, if the answer is "no" you should probably follow it up with "how many others are there?" - especially if it's a top-level enterprise admin job.

comment Windows: Can domain controllers also serve other functions?
Aside from having 40 remote servers with no IT staff on-site, splitting out your server roles to separate boxes does put you in a very nice position where you can do maintenance on one box without affecting the others. Also, putting weird and flaky third party software (I'm talking printer drivers here) on a DC doesn't chime well with my sensibilities. Thrdly, you want your DC event logs to be squeaky clean, you don't want a minor heart attack any time you get a security or system warning from one of those!

comment Windows: what is the difference between DEP always on and DEP opt-out with no exceptions?
That's interesting... I know that there is a DEP-aware option in Visual Studio, but what it does seems poorly documented. Perhaps if the app was compiled with this option switched on or off it may also be a contributing factor (in which case there's not too much you can really do about it).
