Then one appeared among us, in our own form visible, but greater and more beautiful; and he said that he had come out of pity.

I'm like the Clint Eastwood of backups. I drift into town, say "ahm-a gonna clean up yer backups", shoot the place up a bit, get rid of the bad guys, then drift back out again.

Been there, done that, still doing it.

comment Microsoft DNS creating subdomain when adding address record
If it's AD integrated DNS you won't find it there, but you'll have to go into your configuration partition using adsiedit.msc or similar.

comment How important is UAC for developers?
+1; very very good point. Whether we like it or not, UAC is here to stay, and if developers have UAC enabled on their machines then they are more likely to write code that can work properly with UAC enabled on a user's machine.

comment Importance of default windows shares
+1 for the list, but -1 because on a DC you should NOT delete the sysvol share (unless you want to break GPOs) or te netlogon share (unless you want to break legacy logon scripts).

comment Bad results from malware cleanup tools?
+1 for the reimage remark. Cleaning a work PC is - imho - not a productive use of time in most cases.

Alternatively use something like 7-Zip to extract the MSI. Any installer I have that comes as an exe, I will always as a matter of course run it through 7-Zip just to see if there's an MSI lurking within.

Used this, it's a pretty fantastic tool. If it can successfully package Oracle client software, it has to have something going for it.

Orca's been great for editing of installer options, but I certainly wouldn't use it for the full packaging job!

comment As a Windows administrator, what were the issues you encountered with trying to learn a linux distro?
+1 for the "build it" comment: this is a major falling-down point for Linux. It really needs to shake off it's "primary target audience is programmers" thing before it can gain more widespread use.
