comment Managed Sharing of a Windows Computer Preferably Using Remote Desktop
I RDP into a PC in a similar situation. It tells me before I login if I want to kick the logged in user out and who they are. Does yours not do that?

I would make it a resource in AD and allow people to schedule it like a conference room, or similar.

comment How to set up WinXP virtual machines on linux
What role do your XP guests have? That machine is probably way overpowered. We run our entire IT infrastructure, about 60 servers, on 4 separate machines that have, together, roughly the same specs yas yours.

You'll probably still see it in your grub menu, otherwise all your kernels are stored in /boot.

tegbains suggestion sounds like a good one, use the MAC address of your iphone along with your DHCP server to trigger whatever you want to trigger

MetaFrame DOES do what you want. Your admin needs to publish each app seperately, as it stands now it looks like he's just published a full desktop.

comment Initiating VPN connection from VPN server
If you can't get that port on host A then there's you're sunk unless you do the common host as Dan C alluded to. What are you trying to accomplish? maybe there's a better solution.

comment Concurrent NFS access
Who said anything about FTP? Files that are potentially modified by multiple people at similar times are best controlled by a Revision/Document control system. NFS isn't going to be any better/worse then CIFS/FTP/SFTP, it's usually up to the app to "lock" files or otherwise notify users that someone else has their dirty little fingers in a file.

comment Roaming Laptop accessing CentOS LAMP Box - Security Concerns!
@Chase, either is good, they are similar in that they run on the same port and kind of act the same as far as transferring files goes. SCP is supposedly faster, but SFTP lets you emulate a filesystem among other things.
