comment Explain the output of dmesg
Its called a ring buffer because it is allocated in a cyclic manner. The buffer has space for a fixed number of logs, and once the last element is used the first space will be overwritten. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_buffer

comment New MPLS link bringing network to a halt - Spanning Tree Protocol
I would disagree with chosing rapid PVST as the default for all environments. Most cisco architectures have a limit on the maximum number of spanning tree instances. I have seen a number of situations where the number of VLANS has exceeded this and switches configured for PVST/PVST+ have been silently discarding BPDUs and created loops in the network. PVST is great for all cisco small networks, but if you are likely to need several hundred VLANS or need vendor interoperability MST is a better choice.

comment What are some good, IP Address Management solutions for IPv6?
Very true, and this is one of the options I am presenting to my employer. I'm not holding my breath for a favourable outcome though.

In your opinion, how credible are these solutions? Presentations / demos I have seen have been very lacking on detail on the IPv6 side of these products and I get the feeling that a lot of it is vaporware.

comment How to know if a DNS update is taking too long?
Which dig has no answer section? a.gtld-servers.net, the authoritive server for your new registrar, or your local resolving name server? If 1, and the whois lists your new registrar then ask the new registrar to check. Likewise if 2, also contact your new registrar. If 3 you may have a negative cache result which you will either need to wait to expire or flush the server cache ("rndc flush" on bind)
