comment Why am I serving up SimplyClassicRemodeling.com instead of redirecting to CJSHayward.com?
Please restate your response as an answer so I can accept it.

comment Why am I serving up SimplyClassicRemodeling.com instead of redirecting to CJSHayward.com?
That's part of the problem. My intent is to host on my VPS at 69.163.221.78 , and MyDomain's A record and a command-line host simplyclassicremodeling.com both point to my host. However, I've had multiple failures at having any change on my host alter the website behavior in any way. Short answer, I don't know even though I tried to nail that down before asking my question.

comment Why did AWS EC2 Ubuntu node get wiped on reboot?
I definitely did a command line reboot, not a control panel stop+start.

comment What am I leaving out in enabling CGI execution under Apache 2.2?
I changed the DNS to point to the old location for now; the new location is available off of dev.jonathanscorner.com.

comment What am I leaving out in enabling CGI execution under Apache 2.2?
"[client 98.253.179.182] Options ExecCGI is off in this directory: /home/cjsh/mirror/index.cgi". I had another Directory directive that was trying to assign to /home/cjsh/mirror; I commented it so that what is set for /home/cjsh would apply, and restarted. Same behavior, same error.

comment My EC2 Ubuntu server was bounced after do-release-upgrade and never came back up. How can I recover?
Yes; I've tried rebooting it, and nothing has worked.

comment Linux server is usually refusing root ssh/sftp connections; how to fix?
Thank you; I added an unprivileged user and that user has had similarly flaky results to trying to log in. Any reason why paul@[deleted].com would not be allowed in?

comment What else do I need to do to satisfy Apache working as a plain old media server?
Yes; I was giving the answer I found.

comment Why is a domain I have a VirtualHost for pulling the default domain's content?
Thank you; I have added a ServerName and ServerAlias to the 000 host. It is back to serving up what is served before for each of the domains I was able to try.

comment Why is a domain I have a VirtualHost for pulling the default domain's content?
P.S. if I move the VirtualHost to the beginning, JonathansCorner.com and media.pragmatometer.com both serve up content intended for media.pragmatometer.com.

comment Why is a domain I have a VirtualHost for pulling the default domain's content?
Yes; JonathansCorner.com, CJSHayward.com, JonathansCorner.com etc. are pulling different content exactly as intended. Let me try moving media.pragmatometer.com to be above default; thanks.

@dusan.bajic Thank you; I've edited the post to include my default VirtualHost's configuration.

I remembered to restart Apache.

Thank you; I saw the same 403 in response to "Allow from all". -- Is there more to it than setting "Allow from all"?

"Did you open port 443 in the security context?" - I did now, and it's working now. Thanks,

The security group allows 80 and 22.

comment How to build a Drupal-supporting EC2 instance?
Apache was dying on restart because it could not find /var/log/httpd. When that was addressed, however, things were not all better. Now I have one root and six www-data Apache2 racehorses Raring to go, but I can only telnet to 80 from localhost.

comment How to build a Drupal-supporting EC2 instance?
I tried "ufw allow 80" as superuser, but that resulted in the behavior of port 80 being open for connections from localhost but not from my workstation.

I have http (80) and ssh, including sftp (22) - we should be using sftp over ftp on pain of sending plaintext credentials over the network. ufw is installed. How can configure it (or uninstall the server firefwall represented by UFW, seeing as its security group sets the permissions I want?)

Yes; thank you. The security group is quick-start-1, which is also the security group for the instance for JonathansCorner.com. In both cases I have not touched the default settings and specifically have not adjusted firewall settings.
