comment How can i easily password protect a site in Apache/Windows?
Since he was asking for help on the Windows platform, your answer seems to miss that part. For anyone search for a htpasswd version for Windows; you might as well use an online tool for that.

comment How to calculate the “ideal” value for maxProcesses for an IIS 7 web garden?
Thank you! I've read about the pros and cons. We are currently trying to figure out what of the above applies by switching to web garden and see how it behaves. So you would agree that 1 process per CPU core could be a reasonable value by any rule-of-thumb?

comment Need to stop SQL Server when using Disk Defragmenter?
Well, I do think I have a backup by looking at the backup files I have from the system. To be really sure, I would have to do a restore test every week or so which I honestly don't do until now.

comment Denying access via .htaccess according to referrer
In the documentation they sometimes omit the quotes in their examples. Maybe give it a try? Also, why the last forward-slash after "tk"?

This seems also to work with SSL, though I never did by myself. For SSL I always used separate IP addresses.

comment Connections to IIS sometimes get stuck in CLOSE_WAIT state
I discovered that behaviour for a Windows 2008 R2 Server that runs inside Citrix Xen and has updated the Xen Citrix Tools for Virtual Machines to a newer version. I also found this forum post to suggest to adjust the KeepAliveTime

comment After running for approx. 2 days, IIS FTP refuses to connect
Thanks, @GregAskew - Yes, I looked in Process Explorer seeing it running. A net stop ftpsvc runs forever, though. I'll think that one cause might be that I roughly transfer 20k files every night (backup) which might make the server run into some memory "overflow" thing. I'll try to replace IIS FTP with FileZilla Server to give it a try.

Thanks, @floyd. I have no stop conditions configured. Am I understanding it correct that I have to configure a stop condition to get what I want (i.e. a report a day)?

comment What is preferable, “no-reply@” or “noreply@”?
@MichaelHampton - Our service is similar to YouSendIt to notify users about an upload. Until now I get thousands of "I'm out of office" replies a day, which I really do not need. Actually I cannot imagine of a single use case where a reply makes sense.
