comment How do you delete a counter in graphite whisper?
@dave Unfortunately no. It's been a while and we've move to a new graphite server so the issue has "solved" itself.

comment Connecting to a ESXi guest remotely
Thanks @David. It took a bit to get vSphere running (had to get a windows VM since wine didn't like it). I now have access to a console. Some kind of issue with Grub.

comment How to capture the queries run on mysql server?
Thanks @Daniel. We've turned this on, however there's no timestamp information in the log. Any idea how to get a timestamp in there?

comment GIT as a backup tool (am I a silly person?)
The big problem with this is that there is no central control - you need to have direct (ssh) access to the machine to preform any form of maintenance or backup validation. I always find installing an app on the boxes to be backed up then administering them from a central location is a much bigger win.

comment Should I run my own MTA?
It sounds like a good choice from a cost perspective and given the nature of your business, this is definitely an additional service you can offer clients. From a technical perspective, @cvaldemar seems to be on the right track for you. Good luck!

comment Should I run my own MTA?
@Mascarpone Thanks for the comment! I'm assuming you're asking where the tipping point is between cost of outsourcing vs cost of bringing this in-house. You should be at a point where you can start getting seriously good discounts for using a 3rd party. MailChimp for example is less than half a cent an email at your current volume. So the question back to you; Is it worth $2400 (or less) per month six months from now for you to be doing this in house?

comment How to configure Apache to act as an SSL proxy to an application server?
If you have the option of replacing apache, take a look at nginx which is a lot easier to configure for this
