Reading serverfault is a humbling experience: I now know just how little I know.

comment What is this router's IP address(es)?
The router could have any IP address within the network of each interface (excluding the broadcast address and the network address).

comment How to limit connections when redirecting ports using iptables
Because these are in separate tables, rule order does not matter so much. mangle PREROUTING and nat PREROUTING will always run before filter INPUT (assuming the packet is destined for this computer).

comment bash globbing - strange behaviour
To add to @MadHatter, ls -d directory lists the directory name itself, otherwise ls directory lists the contents of that directory.

comment ngnix proxy https request to subfolders
The key to configuring this reverse proxy is that nginx will have to have the SSL certificate for www.mycompany.com and handle the SSL encryption. Then it will have access to the decrypted URL (and all the other decrypted data).

comment Two Exim servers and redirects
If the user wants to keep a copy of the email then it seems like redirect is the wrong thing to do, but I can't think of what the right thing is right this second.

comment Service Closing transmission on OpenSSL
221 Service Closing transmission is the correct response to QUIT. As to why the email isn't going anywhere, I'm guessing since your example email is fairly invalid (body not separated from headers by a blank line, no From: header, no To: header) it's getting marked as spam.

@JakeGould just as a note, the script is an expect script, not a bash script.

comment configuring httpd with valid/invalid IPs
Use -I (capital i) instead of -A so that the rule gets inserted at the top of the list. Since the rule ended up after the REJECT rule, the packets are rejected and the new rule will never be used.

comment Tons of “invalid command \N” when restoring a dump
That message comes up whenever COPY tablename ... has a problem. Once the COPY command errors out, the remaining rows of the COPY command are interpreted as their own commands and produce spurious errors like this one. You'll need to look at the beginning of that list to see the actual error.

comment Techniques to implement iptables rules
Some would say this isn't conservative enough and you should drop outgoing packets except to destinations you know you should be connecting to: DNS server, mail server (if it should send mail at all), the webservices you consume, the upgrade repository, etc.
