After talking with our sysadmin, he did a test where he took down the antivirus, and the speed was blazing. Good suggestion!

@Miles Erickson - All listings can take minutes. Occasionally it'll be very brisk, but frequently trying to access network shares hangs explorer for minutes.

Well, that's what I'm asking - that are the statistics I need to be collecting? How do I go about collecting them?

Yeah, I tried editing that, but the services menu just declared that a registry key was not found :^)

@BillThor - unfortunately, it still requires running something on the remote box that the admin of that box probably won't want me to. @mfinni - yes, Having just set up a mock system to test that, DeltaCopy doesn't seem to want to interact with systems that aren't running rsyncd. I had heard of rsync before today, I don't know why I had ruled it out. Since you inspired me to give it another go, though, I'll award you this one. Hopefully that admin won't reject my request ;p

Everything I've seen talks about requiring an rsync daemon on the server side - Is that true, or does it still work without the daemon? The reason I ask is that I am almost 100% sure that the person in control of the debian machine would NOT open that port or run that service.

Can you recommend a solid resource that can enable me to set up a functional system as quickly as possible?
