Heads Up: the code.google.com/p/port-mirroring link seems to be for openwrt only.

@Amistad: code.google.com/p/port-mirroring says: "iptables simply modifies the ethernet header of the original packets to the target host's MAC address. Therefore, you can not get the original source and destination mac addresses. Also, the target host must be in the same subnet as the mirroring source."

comment Can I automatically add a new host to known_hosts?
This gives a Warning: Permanently added 'hostname,1.2.3.4' (RSA) to the list of known hosts. To avoid the warning, and to avoid the entry being added to any known_hosts file, I do: ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -o LogLevel=ERROR -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null username@hostname.com

comment SNMP through NAT when server has two IP addresses
Yes, as a matter of fact, there is a double NAT. How does that contribute to the problem though? Wouldn't this occur with a single NAT too?

comment How to use “Instance Store Volumes” storage in Amazon EC2?
@EricHammond's comment was really the answer to my quest - I didn't see them anywhere - even in fdisk -l

comment Using API to get info about VMWare datastore
One thing to keep in mind is that the Perl VMware SDK is not redistributable. See Redistribution Information. So if you intend to ship your code to others, they'll have to install the Perl VMware SDK themselves. The Java SDK has no such limitation (see same link).

Thanks. I tried all 4 of these, but they didn't work for me. You write "may work", and "as a last resort try"... Did any of these actually work for you? Which ones?

comment How does Ubuntu keep track of the “System restart required” flag in motd?
Note: for debian systems, /var/run/reboot-required does not get created unless the update-notifier-common package is installed.
