comment PHP-FPM showing 34 worker process despite adjusting configuration
First, you should answer in your other question rather than creating a new one. Second, could you update your question with the content of all your configuration files ( with the private part removed), i.e. Nginx conf, Php FPM conf, etc...

comment AWS-EC2: Shared file system for high availability
Concerning your specific problem, you should just create a rsync task between your two instances which update only the last modified files, and cron it regularly, like, every 10 minutes, but omitting your cache files.

comment Utilizing multiple IPs provided by ISP
With IPCop, your public network is the RED zone, your server/DMZ is ORANGE, and your workstation are GREEN ( or BLUE if wireless ). So you can check on Google for "IPCop Orange multiple"

comment Which php5-fpm setting for high number of concurrent connections + nginx
Could you give us too your php.ini conf ? Sometimes, such problems are produced because of too high values for memory_limit for your PHP processes for example.
