comment NFSv4 - ACLs not working
Huh, ACLs are working over NFS, it's just that UID/GID mapping works only for regular permission bits- ACLs work when UID/GIDs match...

comment NFSv4 - ACLs not working
it is mounted as acl, but somehow mount doesn't show the acl flag. The ACLs are enforced on the server filesystem, but not when they are accessed via NFS.

doh! the filesystem's fstab entry has the acl option, but it's not applying. Different issue

comment How to load a MSSQL DB using MySQL in Ubuntu
you can also "browse" an SQL Server database from Ubuntu without exporting/importing into MySQL. There might be better options, but squirrelsql.org + SQL Server JDBC driver will let you connect to the db, which might be a more practical option.

also, spend some time creating a test environment. It is time extremely well spent.

Consider code.google.com/p/mod-auth-token as commented in serverfault.com/questions/61588/mod-secdownload-for-apache-2-x

comment Erratic DNS name resolution
Well; I've tried dnscheck.iis.se and it points out a lot of issues, which I've forwarded to the appropiate party for consideration. I've run dig foobar.es -t NS, dig foobar.es -t NS x.x.x.x, where x.x.x.x are the NSs listed in the first query. They all return the same, except a "SOA authority section", which is not present in our ISP's DNS response, but is present on their nameservers.

comment Do I need to REINDEX and VACUUM a table after deleting lots of rows?
You might want to consider partitioning, see postgresql.org/docs/9.0/static/ddl-partitioning.html ; then you can just drop partitions and avoid vacuuming.

comment Is hardware abstraction enough for HUGE amount of files?
I would research if SQL Server filestreams + NTFS can handle this.

I think offlineimap and imapsync might be what you are after...

comment Is Arch Linux suitable for server environment?
I turn to testing when I want to run somewhat recent software (i.e. getting Rails apps running on CentOS is a bit irksome- but quite easy on Debian Testing...). I use debsecan to pull just security updates and it's normally quite stable. Were I use it for hardcore production, I'd like to do extensive testing before rolling out updates on testing boxes. Of course, I should also do that in CentOS boxes :-p

comment Linux file copy with ETA?
Was posting that. However, be aware that it doesn't provide a reliable "progress over total copy time". However, rsync brings many benefits to this kind of stuff.

comment What should I know before considering a VPS or dedicated server?
Well, I think your benchmark, while accurate (I see nearly no difference on disk IO on a Xen VM than on the Dom0 on a box I have), it does not reflect that typically your VPS is competing with a couple other VPSs on the same RAID array...

comment Is there anywhere that has really cheap confluence WIKI hosting
I use OVH, but they are European. They are dirt cheap. Slicehost and Linode are other popular options. But really, pick a short contract and if you don't like it, switch...

comment How to implement a simple mail server using postfix and dovecot?
It seems that postfix is listening on the loopback interface, which will only accept connections from the same box, using the loopback address.

comment Should I change the process priority of Apache Tomcat in Windows?
Adding RAM will help if either you experience GC pauses or you can increase some cache setting thanks to the bigger heap or something like that.

comment Slow down individual connections passing through a Linux router?
I believe ssh differentiates interactive use (ssh) from non-interactive (scp/sftp) by using a TOS TCP/IP header, and wondershaper uses that.
