I'm an IT generalist, who is currently playing the role of a Windows/Linux Sysadmin (primarily focused on Linux and VMWare) for one of the largest CRM service providers in the world who is now Serverfault Valued Associate #00002.

I'm an avid (not particularly great but I'm avid :) gamer, and shooting sports enthusiast in my spare time.

comment SPAN port only shows multicast traffic on Cisco switch
Ah yes that'll do it. You should write up what you found as an answer (we love self answers).

comment Accessing Windows VMs on Linux hosts remotely
Yea, also add in what you have tried so far and exactly what issues you are running into. Posts that just ask "How do I do this?" Don't do so well here. They are the equivalent of "gimmie-teh-codez" questions on SO

Is there a reason you can't setup a VPN? Exposing RDP (or any remote access technology) to the internet is generally a bad idea.

comment Spanning Tree Necessary With 2 Stacked Dell Managed Switches?
Sorry if this is blunt, but that guy doesn't know what he is talking about. It's more likely you have an overloaded router, or your connection is saturated. STP is a L2 technology. If you turn it off your chance of accidentally taking down the whole network with a loop at some point now or in the future goes to almost 100%
