comment How can I allow the user “postgres” on one server to rsync to another?
Tried that too :( I'll have to go through it all with a fine-toothed comb, no doubt there's a typo somewhere.

Neither AuthorizedKeysFile .ssh/authorized_keys or AuthorizedKeysFile %h/.ssh/authorized_keys make a difference I'm afraid. (Restarted sshd after config change)

comment Is it safe to mount an EBS drive at /mnt/some_name and reboot my EC2 instance?
I am using EBS as my root, but /mnt/ is ephemeral instance storage.

I'm not just worried about the data either, I want to know that services that require access to /mnt/some_name can start automatically after reboot.

It's not /mnt I'm worried about, everything under it is lost so the mount point /mnt/some_name doesn't exist and the disk can't be mounted there.

"take care about mounting it to your target directory" - but what if that target dir doesn't exist anymore? It won't be able to mount there.

comment Where is this extra number coming from in ps aux
Oh, i guess because the other figures where pushed over I thought there was something extra in there. Restarting it does reset the figures for a while but they are now back to huge numbers.

comment How can I make Amazon SES the default method of sending mail from my server?
Awesome, thanks. I assume this means that configuring postfix is the right way to solve my problem. I'll give this a try and accept your answer soon.

Thanks for your answer. I'm not sure how many CPUs the Micro instances have, or even if number of CPUs is a valid concept in this environment.

comment Can I define HTTP and HTTPS in the same VirtualHost in Apache conf?
Unfortunately I have a few VirtualHosts, each with different config and most needing to work over HTTP and HTTPS.

comment Where can I find logs for SFTP?
@Rob: the users shell is /bin/bash, set because WinSCP was complaining about an incompatible shell and suggested BASH, after the change it still complains.
