With a Computer Engineering degree under my belt, I'm looking to change the world.

I have teamed up with a friend of mine with the intention of developing a web-app together, and generally share our interest in programming.

I am looking forward to developing with him, and if a job does ever land in my lap contributing to that too.

comment Setting a transparent proxy without changing existing IP Address values
@Jason246 - The idea with putting it in front of the router is that all the traffic going into the router ends up passing through the squid proxy first. But thinking about this, I may have jumped the gun, the proxy in this situation wouldn't know who is sending what traffic without some syndicated login system. I know for fortinet's logging systems, the traffic is tied to the computer's domain login. For guest networks (no dhcp) it presents a login page before it lets you look at the internet. I don't think squid is designed to do it that way.

Can you put the proxy in front of the Cisco router between it and the internet?

comment Updating Hyper-V Server 2012 (free version)
For sake of completeness. Would there be any administrative differences AFTER getting a windows server 2012 core to run only hyper-v vs just installing the hyper-v server 2012?

Documentation on core says that it can do DHCP, File, DNS, Media Services, and Active Directory. ( msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/… ) Is this still the case for Hyper-V server 2012?

I was under the impression that you needed license to run core. Do you know if there is any difference between this version of core and the one you can make from a server 2012 install? Documentation on core says that it can do DHCP, File, DNS, Media Services, and Active Directory. ( msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/… ) Is this still the case for Hyper-V server 2012 ?

Does the free edition actually run on top of Core? It seemed like everything was missing, and I was under the impression that you needed license to run core. I'll take another look tonight. For reference: blogs.technet.com/b/keithmayer/archive/2013/04/05/…

comment Obsessive behaviors in system administrators
I take screenshots of my rdp session and figure out afterwards what I should remove with a script. I believe that WMIC can run over the network to find out what is installed.

I figured out how to train a bunch of kids on how to merge sort so that I could get them to merge sort about 500 CDs I had lying around. I'm lazy.

comment Bad results from malware cleanup tools?
I wish my enviroments were corporate with proper AD syncing and an imaging deployment server. Sadly they aren't, so it is often faster to run a few targeted tool or simply blow away a user profile once data is backed up. Thankfully most of this is script-able.
